La Brea and West Hollywood

We arrived in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon. So glad we decided to fly instead of drive. The flight was only an hour, and we had Economy Plus seats. There was so much leg room, and there was a spare seat next to us since that person was upgraded to first class! Made me a bit depressed thinking about the impending flight to London. I can only hope we get so lucky again.

We didn't do to much on Friday, just wandered round the neighbourhood. We're staying in West Hollywood, about a 15 minute walk from The Grove shopping centre and The Farmers Market. The Grove is a big outdoor shopping centre, with stores like The Gap, Nordstrom, Apple and Banana Republic. The Farmers Market is open until late every night, and has a lot of different options for eating. The bed and breakfast we're staying in is really nice, we've been having massive cooked breakfasts in the mornings, so we haven't needed to have lunch until about 2.00 p.m.

On Saturday we went on a bit of a mission to the La Brea Tar Pits and Melrose Ave. We were slightly deceived by Google Maps into thinking this was a much shorter walk than it actually was. It said it should take about an hour, but it was closer to 3. We were so exhausted by the end of it. I can see why everyone drives in LA.

The Page Museum at the Tar Pits was cool. It had heaps of bones and fossil's that had been recovered from the site.

Melrose Ave is not as interesting as it used to be. A lot of stores have closed down, and there were heaps of sales. But we managed to get some cool photos on the walk there.

We also walked to Beverly Hills and wandered up and down Robertson and Beverly Boulevard's. We didn't see any celebrities, but we saw heaps of paparazzi outside The Ivy and the Chanel store.
