Tour Guide for a Day

We spent this past weekend showing our good friends Jenna and Andrew around London. They were here for the weekend from New Zealand, the first stop on a 5 week tour of Europe.

It was fun doing lots of touristy things, visiting the places I usually stay away from because they're so busy, especially the weekend before Christmas!

The weekend turned out to be pretty sunny, but freezing cold. Much worse for Jenna and Andrew than for us, since we're used to it now. I may have forgotten how hard I found the cold when we first arrived, and made them walk for ages instead of catching the tube...

We met them in Covent Garden on Saturday morning and had a wander round there, looking at all the amazing decorations. They have filled Covent Garden market with huge red baubles, which just look awesome.

They also have Reindeer petting on Saturday afternoons, so we lined up with all the parents taking their kids and had a turn patting a Reindeer. Their antlers are so soft and furry!

Fluffy Reindeer!

After visiting the Reindeer we wandered over to the West End so Jenna and Andrew could get some tickets for the We Will Rock You musical. I don't love Queen, so we didn't go, but apparently it was a pretty good show, even though Jenna fell asleep during parts of it :)

We came across M&M's world in Leicester Square and had a wander round. It was so busy, just crammed with tourists everywhere. It's 4 levels of every kind of M&M merchandise you can ever imagine, plus the ground floor has huge tubes of pick'n'mix M&M's.

We bought one of the Christmas decorations above, some of them were so awesome. Not that we have a tree to put it on.

All the colours of the rainbow...

We headed over to Trafalgar Square afterwards to look at the Christmas Tree. We didn't manage to see it last year, so I was pretty excited. And pretty disappointed when we saw it. I was expecting a huge tree with lots of decorations. Instead it was just quite a tall tree with some lights.

Unimpressed.

So we left the unimpressive Christmas tree to see Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. There was a big Christmas tree at both Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. I love London at Christmas, it's just trees and lights everywhere.

I think by this time Jenna and Andrew were pretty much exhausted and freezing to death, so they went back to their hostel to go to bed.. and we went home and did the same :)
