Street Art and Food Markets in Notting Hill and Portobello Road

We usually try to stay away from the super touristy parts of London, and Portobello Road is no exception. If you visit the markets on a Saturday you better get there first thing in the morning, because after about 10.00 a.m. the hordes of people descend and it's impossible to get anywhere.

Visiting on a Sunday however is a lot less manic since the market isn't open on Sunday's. All the usual shops are still open however, and most have little stalls out the front selling all kinds of things from jewellery to antiques and old Army gear from many years ago.

We prefer getting off at Westbourne Park station, instead of Notting Hill Gate, and starting at the bottom of Portobello Road and working our way back up.

Arriving around lunchtime we were pleased to discover this street food market, that has popped up at the end of Portobello Road. Lot's of great stalls including Mexican, Japanese and Polish, but of course we stopped for a cheeseburger at Cheeky Burger

I'm not sure we'll manage to eat all the great burgers available in London, but we're sure going to try!

Having refuelled we continued on our way, exploring the area around Ladbroke Grove, which has an amazing selection of street art.

It's not often you'll see such great art outside of East London, and we finally saw our first Banksy.

Awesome Banksy art

Love these bright Chickens!

After taking lots of photos, we made our way back to Portobello Road and slowly made our way from one end to the other, stopping along the way to explore all the stalls along the roadside.

We found this great store at the top of the street, I wanted everything here! But sadly there is a strong difference between WANT and NEED. Especially when living in a shared flat and facing the task of having to ship our belongings home in the next year.

Not quite ready to go home on such a sunny day, we continued past Notting Hill and along to Hyde Park. No matter how busy London gets when it's sunny, there is always a quiet spot to be found in Hyde Park.

We stopped on the way for a few picnic supplies and ended the day munching on crisps and enjoying the last of the Sunday afternoon sun before making our way back home.
